MANILA, Philippines - The Henry V. Moran Foundation will stage a fund-raising football tournament dubbed “A Very Special Futbol Cup†on Saturday featuring “special†children at the Tuloy sa Don Bosco Streetchildren Village in Alabang.
The organizing HVMF, headed by chairman Daniel Moran, and its head of futbol program Ed Formoso, said it hopes to raise at least P3 million in private and corporate sponsorships that will help send deserving and inspiring handicapped children to Castle Hill for the Special Olympics Australia from Nov. 30-Dec. 7.
The Aussie event also serves as a qualifying tournament for the next Special Olympics to be held in Los Angeles, USA.
The Moran Foundation is taking the cudgels in fielding a team to the international sporting competition upon the invitation from the Special Olympics Philippines board, which is represented by its chairman Alex Babst and national executive director Kaye Chastine Samson.
The Alabang tournament will feature two teams whose members have developmental and learning disabilities.
One of the highlights of the event will be six 15-minute fun games between the Blue Guards and senior national team members. The fun finale will be the friendship match between the older national team alumni and the junior special players.
The HVMF is a non-stock, nonprofit organization helping children with developmental and learning disabilities who exhibit an aptitude and passion for the sport of football.
