MCC has new home in Walter Mart Sucat

MANILA, Philippines - Walter Mart Sucat, one of the prestigious shopping centers in the country, is the newest home  of the Metropolitan Chess Club’s year-round tournaments and Milo Checkmate weekend and summer chess clinics in Parañaque.

The first weekend chess classes are slated Feb. 2-March 9 from 2:30 -4:30 p.m. in front of the mall’s supermarket.

The chess classes will be conducted in six consecutive Saturdays and will culminate with a multi-event like simultaneous exhibition matches between a group of enrollees versus masters, team competition between schools represented by their respective students enrolled in the clinic and an age-group individual tourney. The multi-event is normally held on a Sunday following immediately the last Saturday clinic.

On February 3, an MCC 1850 rating category will be staged at the Walter Mart Sucat activity center. The tournament is open to all players whose NCFP rating is not over 1850, regardless of ages and sexes.

A total pot worth P12,000 is at stake with the champion receiving the top purse of P4,000 plus trophy. Cash prizes are broken down to five places and special award of P500 will be given to each of the top scorers among the ladies, kiddies (12-under), juniors (16-under) and seniors (60 years old and above) participants.

Entry fee is P200 and must be paid through the MCC BDO account at least three days before the tournament date. Late registrants will add P50. No registration will be accepted on site. For more details, call the organizer Metropolitan Chess Club at 826-8560 or 0922-822-6319.
