Bloodied but unbowed: Guiao to learn from painful sweep

Aldo Avinante - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Rain Or shine Elasto coach Yeng Guiao was gracious in defeat and gave credit to Talk n Text as their PBA Philippine Cup Finals ended in a bitter sweep in their campaign against the three-peat seeking Tropang Texters.

"It was not really meant for us. Talk n Text is really the best team in this conference and they deserved to be the champions," said Guiao.

"We will take this as a painful lesson and be better in the next conference," he added.

After being swept in Finals series, including being blown out 105-82 in Game Four last night, the outspoken coach from Pampanga could not explain their woeful shooting in the series.

"We didn't have a game where we had a good shooting night. Our reliable shooters like Jeff (Chan), Paul (Lee) and Gabe (Norwood) were really not reliable, partly because of their (TnT’s) defense," said Guiao.

"But we really had good looks and even open shots that didn't go down. Ganun talaga, it happens. Maybe we just need to work harder on our execution and buildup the skills of the players," he said.

But before the sudden blowout, Rain or Shine gave TnT a scare when they cut the lead to only two points near the end of the third canto.

"We're really disappointed because we actually stopped their dribble drive offense but then they hit 3-pointers from way off. I really thought we had a chance because we closed the gap," said Guiao.

"When we cut their lead, our confidence was going up. But we were abruptly stopped by those 3-pointers which killed us. From then on, it was all downhill," he ended.
