Texters complete sweep, forge history
MANILA, Philippines -- Talk n Text swept its way to becoming the greatest team in All-Filipino Conference history with a swashbuckling sweep of Rain or Shine to annex a third straight Philippine Cup title.
The Tropang Texters exploded for 35 points in the torrid fourth quarter to run away with a clinical 105-82 rout Wednesday night before more than 17,000 fans at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Jared Dillinger fired four triples while Ranidel de Ocampo almost came away with a triple-double to lead the Talk n Text onslaught.
After Rain or Shine threatened at 65-63, Talk n Text finished with five unanswered points, including a late triple by Dillinger, to end the third canto.
The Tropang Texters connected on 14 three-pointers to just two by the Elasto Painters.
"I don't have a (Black) Magic. We just work hard. I'm happy for the players. They showed unselfishness and it'll be hard to choose who is the MVP of this team," coach Norman Black said.
The Texters’ unselfishness was in full display in this clincher as the whole team shared the leather leading to an astonishing 34 assists.
De Ocampo issued seven of them on top of 10 boards and 19 points to win the Finals MVP award.
Kelly Williams also saved his best game in the series, finishing with 15 and 11 rebounds providing the exclamation point with an emphatic alley-oop slam near the end of the fourth.
