St. Scho, San Beda lead WVL winners

MANILA, Philippines - St. Scholastica’s College and San Beda-Alabang toppled their respective rivals to lead the winners in the 17-Under Competitive Division of the Best Center-organized, Milo-sponsored 17th Women’s Volleyball League at the Xavier School courts over the weekend.

National team and Far Eastern University star Rachel Ann Daquis was the special guest in the opening ceremonies led by Best Center founder and president Nic Jorge.

St. Scholastica’s beat St. Theresa’s College, 25-8, 25-14, in Group A, which included Hope Christian School, a 25-2, 25-13 winner over San Antonio de Padua College and Paref-Rosehill, which held off PWU-JASMS,  26-24, 17-25, 25-21. 

In Group B action, San Beda-Alabang downed St. James Academy, 25-21, 25-19; and King Montessori School defeated the Academy of God’s Children, 25-5, 25-20.

In the 17-Under Developmental Division, Assumption-Antipolo clipped St. Scholastica’s-Westgrove, 25-20, 25-12; Colegio de Sta. Rosa-Makati crushed PWU-JASMS, 25-5, 25-9; Escuela de Sophia of Caloocan thumped Philippine Women’s University, 25-7, 25-4; and Escuela de Sophia thwarted St. Scholatica’s-Wesgrover, 25-18, 25-17. 

In Group B, Assumption College beat Child Jesus of Prague, 25-15, 25-20; San Beda-Alabang got past Immaculate Heart of Mary College, 25-18, 25-13; St. Joseph School of Fairview outlasted School of the Holy Spirit, 25-18, 25-13; and St. Scholastica’s Manila edged Child Jesus of Prague, 25-19, 25-19.

In Group C, La Salle College-Antipolo turned back Espiritu Santo Parochial School, 25-15, 18-25, 26-24; St. Bridget School repusled St. Mary’s College, 25-18, 16-25, 25-22; and St. Paul-Makati routed St. Theresa’s College, 25-5, 25-7. 

In Group D, Miriam College whisked off Baesa Adventist Academy, 22-25, 25-12, 25-11; School of St. Anthony dominated Immaculate Concepcion Academy, 25-10, 25-13; and St. Peter the Apostle School hurdled Baesa Adventist Academy.

In the lone 13-Under Competitive Division match, San Beda scuttled St. Scholastica’s Manila, 28-26, 25-19 while Jubilee Christian Academy defeated Assumption College, 25-13, 25-12; and St. Joseph-Fairview whipped La Salle-Antipolo, 25-4, 25-2, in the 13-Under Developmental Division.

In Group B, St. James Academy downed Saint Pedro Poveda, 25-10, 25-23; and San Beda Alabang, nipped 25-20, 25-22.

In Group C, SAS beat Southville International School and Colleges, 25-8, 25-18; while St. Paul Makati overpowered King Solomon Christian School International, 25-10, 25-20, in Group D.
