Ateneo, La Salle split honors in ICTSI inter-school

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo and La Salle scored three victories as favored teams lived up to expectations in the national finals of the ICTSI Inter-School golf championships at the Player course of the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite recently.

The Ateneans took the Midgets 1, Midgets 2 and seniors titles all in runaway fashion with Aidric Chan, Riggs Illescas and Rocco Sumabat leading the charge.

La Salle Greenhills claimed the juniors crown even without top gun Miggy Yee while La Salle Zobel went unbeatable in Girls 2 in the tourney that capped a four-month series at four different courses.

It was in girls 1 where an upset was posted as La Salle Zobel turned back St. Paul’s Pasig which played minus Miya Legaspi because of a prior commitment.

La Salle-Zobel’s Pauline del Rosario and Annika Guangko combined for 167 to beat Daniela Uy and Annika Cedo by 27 in the event sponsored by the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. and organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines.

The event’s other backers were Golf Depot, Pancake House Group, Sizzlin Pepper, Pancake House and Philippine Airlines.

Luigi Guerrero, AR Ramos, JP de Claro and Raymundo Inigo picked up from where Yee left off to give LSGH a comfortable victory over La Salle Zobel, 301-274, while Bernice Ilas and Mikhaela Fortuna totalled 202 to handily beat the Assumption pair of Sam Bruce and Andrea Pineda.

Chan joined hands with Carl Corpus and Marc Corrales for 281 and a comfortable win over Learning Links Academy (252) in Midgets 1 while Illescas teamed up with Miles Conding for 206 that gave them a 28-point win over Xavier in Midgets 2.

The seniors crown also went to Ateneo with Sumabat, Moshe Baldo and Mikey Punzalan pooling 250 to finish ahead of La Salle Taft.
