Henares, Jeremillo top bench rest

MANILA, Philippines - Danby Henares won a gold and silver medals in the opening of 2013 Philippine National Shooting Association’s bench rest monthly open competition recently at the Marine’s shooting range in Fort Bonifacio.

Henares, the PNSA’s semi-auto shooter of the year who moved up to the light varmint class, posted 732 points in the 50-meter event to win the gold and beat Arvie Jeremillo (725) and Noni Alvero (722).

In light varmint 25m class, Henares scored a perfect game but settled for silver after Ilocos shooter Oscar Redondo managed to tie his 748 points for first place. Redondo took the tie breaker to win the gold.

“These tie-breakers happen when you shoot against champions,” said Henares, who wants a rematch with Redondo. “I applaud Redondo for taking the match so he can come back and we can do this all over again.”

In the heavy varmint class, shooter Edwin Jeremillo won the gold in the 25m (748) and the 50m (738) over Auksie Estrada and Gene Manalastas.

In the airgun 25m, Marlon Palmario shook off the threat of the Laguna shooters by hitting 722 points for the gold. He also took the silver in the sporter class.

Other winners were Felino Neri (707) in the sporter class and Boni borces (721) in HV airgun 25m.
