MANILA, Philippines - Unbeaten Ateneo and defending champion La Salle clash today in a duel of fancied teams in the UAAP Season 75 women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Eagles shoot for their seventh straight win and a sweep of the first round elims while the Archers try to stop their arch rivals’ run and force a tie for the lead in the keenly awaited 3:30 p.m. encounter.
Alyssa Valdez, who leads the league in scoring, will be the marked player for Ateneo with coach Roger Gorayeb also pinning his hopes on Fille Cainglet, Gretchen Ho and Dzi Gervacio.
La Salle, however, is out to break Ateneo’s streak on a team built around reigning MVP Abigail Maraño, Mika Reyes and Michelle Gumabao. After dropping its season opener to University of Santo Tomas, La Salle clustered five consecutive victories, all in straight-set fashions, that underscored the Taft-based spikers readiness to re-claim the crown.
National University, meanwhile, seeks to go above the .500 mark for the second time this season as it takes on University of the Philippines at 2 p.m.
Tied with the Adamson Lady Falcons at 3-3, the Lady Bulldogs gun for the crucial win as they try to boost their Final Four bid.
