MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo and La Salle downed their respective rivals to notch their very first wins in the Dickies-FCBL (Filipino-Chinese Basketball League) Women’s Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare Academy gym in QC recently.

Drawing stellar performance from Danica Jose, the Lady Eagles edged Lyceum, 59-58, to snap out of a two-game skid in the annual tournament presented by Dickies.

Jose, daughter of former PBA player Bobby Jose, exploded for 17 points, eight of them in the fourth period to help the Katipunan-based squad repel Lyceum’s repeated rallies.

The former Phl Youth mainstay also had 16 boards to earn her first Dickies Player of the Game award in the tournament backed by Smart Telecom, Powerhouse, CW Home Depot, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum and Hapee Toothpaste.

Jonette De Ong and Kiar Posadas chipped in 14 markers each for Ateneo.

Lyceum, with Michelle Corpus scoring 13 points, fell to 0-3 in the tournament that takes a Christmas break starting this weekend. Action resumes on Jan. 13.

The Lady Archers, on the other hand, leaned on the double-double performance of Aracelie Abaca to repulse University of Santo Tomas, 67-64.

Abaca tallied 16 points and 11 boards to help power La Salle to victory – also its first in three games. She also bagged the Player of the Game award.

College of St. Benilde and Adamson are leading the eight-team tournament with similar 3-0 cards.
