Jugo arranges Philta title clash vs Eala

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Second seed Juan Enrique Jugo survived a first-set scare and went on to stop Alexandra Eala, 7-5, 6-1, and foil a brother-sister finale in the 10-unisex class of the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Tennis Association Age-Group Tennis Championships at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center yesterday.

Top seed Miko Eala primed up for a duel with Jugo with a 6-0, 6-0 rout of Nio Tria in their own semis clash in a victory that underscored his readiness to add the crown to his growing list of victories and avenge his sister’s loss.

Bettina Bautista trounced Gia Sagandoy, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to the finals of the girls’ 12-under division of the week-long tournament put up by PSC and Philta with Dunlop Fort as the official ball.

Alexandra Eala and Mikaela Vicencio dispute the other finals berth at resumption of the other semifinal matches today with the finals set tomorrow.

Top seed Roxanne Resma played true to form and smothered Khim Iglupas, 6-3, 6-0, to book the first championship berth in the premier girls’ 18-and-under category of the event which stakes ranking points.

Khim Iglupas also fashioned out a straight 6-0, 6-2 victory over Erika Manduriao to move into the semis of the girls’ 16-and-under class while third seed Marcus del Rosario dropped just two games to clip Jugo, 6-0, 6-2, and clinch a spot in the semis of the boys’ 12-and-U division.

The winners in each group will gain 200 points while the runners-up and the two other semifinalists will receive 150 and 100 points, respectively.
