MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University (FEU) posted a one-sided 7-0 win against a sluggish National University (NU) squad the other day in the end of the first round of University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s football Season 75 at the Erenchun field inside Ateneo campus.
Striker Jesus Melliza led FEU’s onslaught with goals in the third and 60th minute mark to send the Tamaraw booters to four wins and a loss to stay in second place with 12 points.
“This is a great performance to end the year,” said Melliza, who already established nine goals in five games. “My teammates played well because we are gunning to capture this year’s title.”
FEU’s Chy Villasenor (13th minute), Paolo Bugas (20th), Erik Giganto (50th), Arnel Amita (58th) and Amani Aguinaldo (77th) contributed a goal each.
In other match, reigning champion University of the Philippines bested University of Santo Tomas, 2-0, behind Daniel Gadia and Gabriel Mendoza who drilled in goal in the 28th and 89th minute mark, respectively.
De La Salle University, meanwhile, bashed University of the East, 2-0, behind the 59th and 90+2 minute goal of David Diamante and Charleston Uy, respectively.
UP improved to 3-1-1 win-loss-draw card for 10 points, while La Salle hiked its record to 3-3-0 slate for 9 points.
UST remained with 6 points with two wins and three losses, while NU and UE fell identically to the bottom with a draw and four losses with only a point.
