MANILA, Philippines - Action in the United Football League Cup resumes tonight with Global facing Stallion for the championship at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Global, which edged the Loyola Meralco Sparks, 2-1, in their semis clash last Nov. 13, and Stallion, which rallied to turn back Green Archers United-Globe, 3-1, collide at 7:15 p.m. hoping to take home the UFL Cup.
Clashing at 5:15 p.m. are the Sparks and the Archers in a battle for third.
The much-awaited finale was delayed for over a month owing to the Phl Azkals’ Suzuki Cup campaign which ended in a 0-1 defeat to Singapore in the semis.
Global will pin its hopes on Azkals mainstays Juani Guirado, Misagh Bahadoran, Carli de Murga, Jeffrey Christaens, Patrick Reichelt, Dennis Wolf and Marwin Angeles with support to come from Kevin Capolei, Fidelis Nnabuife, goalie Roland Sadia, Alex Obiang and the prolific Sudanese striker Izzeldin El Habbib.
Stallion, meanwhile, remains confident of its chances on a team anchored by Ruben Doctora Jr. and the Spanish duo of Rufo Sanchez and Joaco Canas.
Sanchez is one of the league’s leading strikers with seven, the Cup’s third best behind nine by Loyola’s Phil Younghusband and eight by Pasargad’s Masood Shadideh.
