Perpetual Help spikers unscathed in NCAA volley
MANILA, Philippines - Perpetual Help pulled off a pair of emphatic victories over Jose Rizal to remain unscathed in men’s and women’s divisions of the 88th NCAA volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan yesterday.
The Lady Altas smashed the Lady Bombers, 25-6, 25-16, 25-17, to post their third straight victory for the solo lead while the Altas slammed the Bombers, 25-13, 25-12, 25-21, to grab a share of the lead with the San Beda Lions, also at 3-0.
Power-hitting Adam Daquer led Perpetual with 12 hits while team captain Jay dela Cruz, Edmar Sanchez, Rex Castro and Ralph Savellano unloaded nine hits apiece to anchor the three-peat seeking Altas’ romp.
San Beda earlier turned back Lyceum in a pulsating, 25-21, 25-20, 17-25, 23-25, 15-9 win.
The Lady Altas, meanwhile, drew strength from reigning MVP Sandra delos Santos, skipper April Ann Sartin and Rochel Ann dela Paz, who unleashed 13, 12 and 10 hits, respectively.
The defending champions thus moved past Arellano U, Emilio Aguinaldo and St. Benilde, which both have 2-0 cards.
In juniors’ action, Lyceum outlasted San Beda, 25-22, 20-25, 12-25, 25-21, 16-14, to grab the solo lead with a 3-0 slate from San Sebastian (2-0).
