MANILA, Philippines – Defending champions San Beda Red Lions held off the Letran Knights, 69-55, last Sunday in the 9th Fr. Martin Cup Collegiate Open basketball tournament at the Arellano University-Legarda gymnasium in Sampaloc, Manila.
Ryusei Koga and Arthur de la Cruz delivered the big baskets for the Red Lions, who bounced back from a 64-56 beating they got from the University of Perpetual Help Altas the other week.
Koga shot 15 points while De la Cruz provided 13 for the Red Lion, who picked up their first win in two games in Group A.
The Knights, bannered by Mark Cruz with 12 points, remained in the lead with their 2-1 win-loss card.
In other games, the University of the Philippines Maroons prevailed over the Lyceum Philippines University Pirates, 72-69, while the College of St. Benilde-A Blazers won over the Mapua Cardinals, 71-69.
Jason Ligad showed the way for the UP Maroons with 18 points while Joseph Marata hit 15.
Jonathan Grey fired 14 points for the Blazers.
