Philta age group tennis unwraps in S Kudarat

MANILA, Philippines - Young tennis players in Sultan Kudarat gets the rare chance to vie in competitive play as the Philta-Palawan Pawnshop Regional Age- Group Championships presented by Babolat holds its very first tournament at the Isulan Capitol Tennis Club beginning today.

“We are very thankful to Palawan Pawnshop and Babolat for staging this tournament here,” said Gov. Teng Mangudadatu. “With this event, our young tennisters need not travel far to compete in top-level tournaments.”

“We expect a good number of players this week. We want to give the young players here a feel of tournament play,” said Bobby Castro, COO of Palawan Pawnshop, the chief backer of the year-long, nationwide talent-search sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association.

The four-day Sultan Kudarat stop is the fourth of five legs slated in Mindanao as part of Philta’s program, in cooperation with sponsors Palawan Pawnshop and Technosports, to promote the sport and discover fresh talents from the countryside.

“This is part of our commitment to help develop the sport and provide tournametns for the young tennis buffs in the region,” said Guillermo Nocom, president of Technosports, exclusive distributor of Babolat.

Events on tap are the boys’ and girls’ 12-U, 14-U, 16-U and 18-U divisions and the 10-unisex.

North Cotabato wraps up the Mindanao swing of the circuit on Dec. 7-12 at the Kabacan Tennis Club.
