FEU, La Salle XI eye rare double feat

MANILA, Philippines - Unbeaten Far Eastern University and surprise finalist De La Salle-Flying V shoot for a double championship as their seniors and juniors squads dispute the two crowns in the 2012 Independent Philippine Petroleum Companies Association Football Pre-Season Cup at the Ateneo High School Football Field in Katipunan, QC today.
The Tamaraws topped Group A with three victories for a nine-point total in the elims then nipped the Emilio Aguinaldo College booters, 4-3, in penalty shootout to advance to the championship.
The Green Archers, meanwhile, needed to beat Perpetual Help by eight goals to edge the Ateneo-Filoil Blue Eagles for the last semis seat where they outlasted the UST-MetroOil Tigers to clinch the other berth in the finals of the tournament sponsored by Meralco, Nuvali, Nature’s Spring, Molten, N20 Gastropub, Boysen Paints, BDO, Topcoms/StarSports Korea, Bacchus, CDO San Marino Corned Tuna and Pingping Lechon.
The seniors finals is set at 5 p.m.
In juniors play, the Baby Tamaraws swept Group C in the elims, highlighting their romp with a 43-0 rout of the Letran Squires. They also made short work of the Baby Eagles, 5-0, in the semis.
The Junior Archers, on the other hand, outgunned the San Beda Red Cubs, 3-1, to nail the second finals berth in the league bankrolled by IPPCA members Chemrez Technologies Inc., Eastern Petroleum Corp., Filpride/USA88, Seaoil Philippines Inc., Flying V, Oilink, Unioil, International Engineer Phils., Inc., Filoil Energy Company, City Oil, Metro Oil Subic, LPGMA, Omni Petroleum Corp, Trans Overseas Industrial Corp. and CIIS.
