Pacquiao does a Santa this early in Los Angeles
MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao is playing Santa way ahead of Christmas.
Days after giving away expensive wristwatches to his fellow congressmen, the Filipino boxing superstar has a ton of turkey and pumpkin pies to give away to his fans in Los Angeles.
In the United States, Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and Pacquiao wants to make sure he has something to share to those who will show up on Sunday.
According to www.philboxing.com, the gift-giving will take place at the Westside Shepherd of the Hills Church along Wilshire Blvd. in LA following an 11 a.m. mass.
It’s nothing new for Pacquiao, who did the same while he trained in the US for one of his previous fights. Back home, he is known for giving away millions in cash to the poor.
Only this time, it’s not just the less-privileged who are enjoying the boxer’s legendary generosity.
A few days ago, members of the House of Congress received an early Christmas gift from Pacquiao in the form of an expensive TechnoMarine watch which the boxer endorses.
The watch, which bears the signature of Pacquiao, is reportedly worth close to P40,000 each.
There are 287 members of Congress, and if each of them got one, then it’s all worth P11.4 million or roughly $279,000.
The House of Congress is made up of millionaires and multi-millionaires, but on paper there’s no one as rich as Pacquiao, who was declared last year as the richest with a net worth of P1.1 billion.
What he gives away may be a drop in the bucket, but it’s really the thought that counts.
“You may be the richest man on earth, but once you go to heaven, you cannot take your riches with you,” said the superstar who’s gearing up for a fourth fight with Juan Manuel Marquez on Dec. 8.
“It’s my way of giving back,” Pacquiao would often say.
There’s no one like him.
