Balce cops 3 titles in Babolat Subic leg
MANILA, Philippines - Maia Balce, fresh from her two title wins in the Cebu leg, annexed three more titles in the Subic leg of the 2012 Babolat Junior Tennis Circuit Group 2 competition at the Subic Bay Freeport in Olongapo City.
Balce, 14, scored a 6-4, 6-3 win over fourth seed Nicole Amistad to cop the girls’ 18-under singles title of the 100-player tournament.
The three-time World Juniors Tennis campaigner defeated Cristabelle Paulino in the girls’ singles semifinals of the tournament sanctioned by Philippine Tennis Association and organized by tournament director Juanito Cansino.
She also won the girls’ 16-under singles crown after a walk over victory against Angela Sunga. Balce outlasted Monivic Santos in the semifinals, 4-0, 4-1, to arrange a title-duel with Sunga.
Balce also won the 18 girls doubles title along with Isabella Mendoza after beating Monivic Santos and Dana Regala, 8-6.
Michael Eala, meanwhile, won three titles – boys’ 12-under singles, 10-unisex singles and 10-unisex doubles.
Eala defeated Jacob Martin, 6-2, 3-1, for the boys’ 12-under plum and Nio Tria, 6-2, 6-1 in the 10-under singles.
He teamed up with Alexandra Eala to outlast Nio Tria and Ryotaro Shimomura, 8-6, for the doubles crown.
Other singles winners were Andrew Joshua Cano (18-boys), Eric Olivarez Jr. (16-), Emmanuel Vacalares (14), Carmela Llavore (14) and Rafaela Villanueva (12). -girls).
