MANILA, Philippines - Tagaytay Highlands sets out for a season sweep of the WGAP (Women’s Golf Association of the Phils.) tournaments as it shoots for the WGAP Cup crown starting today at Splendido Golf and Country Club in Tagaytay.
The Highlanders are actually going for a title repeat in the Ryder Cup-style duel which gathers the top five finishers of the eight-leg Champion Infinity WGAP Circuit presented by Pacsports, which the Tagaytay-based squad also ruled in close fashion over Alabang.
That makes the Highlanders the team to beat in the event spread over three days in three of the country’s challenging courses. The second leg will be played Nov. 14 at Summit Point in Batangas while Sherwood Hills will host the final match on Nov. 20.
Joining Tagaytay Highlands and Alabang in the elite field are Villamor, Forest Hills and Sta. Elena.
The WGAP Cup will have each team of four players per day play a total of 12 matches in three different formats with the Classes B and C players tangling in the first leg at Splendido in best-ball.
The second leg at Summit Point will have the Class A and B players clash in an aggregate format event, while Classes A and C players will slug it in the final leg under the Greensome format.
Tagaytay Highlands is pinning its hopes on Class A players Sandy Romualdez, Gie Bote, Rosalie Heo and Hedy See with Totelle Dimson, Grace Kyung Jung Hee, Marixi Prieto and Lilibeth de Villa leading the Class B squad. Celones Faye, Margaret Tan, Deena Mendiola, Dionne Cup and Rosalind Wee lead the Class C team.
Alabang will be bannered by Bernice Ilas, Mavis Deary, Ana Mendoza and Joan Morales (Class A), along with Class B spearheads Arlene Barclay, Marl Mendoza, Lanfen Hsieh and Vivian Chua. Minerva Castillo, Greely Oposa, Maria Brumann and Renee Francisco make up the Class C squad.
Villamor hopes to draw the best from Harmie Constantino, Josephine Barredo, Chanelle Avaricio and Samantha Martinez (Class A), Jing Lozada, Lisa Ferreras, Melissa Gozum and Nancy Tsay (Class B) and Class C players Vivian Mawis, Lydia Reyes, Susan San Pascual and Elisa Thoburn.
Christine Lava, Violy Pegels, Nelda Roguez and Tess Staub head Forest Hills’ Class A squad with support to come from Jee Cabochan, Anli Wu, Celia Hizon and Sohan Uy (Class B) and Evelyn Alcantara, Eleanor Leung, Lilian Lu and Marilyn Co.
Sta. Elena will bank on Class A players Ayami Morihiro, Sakura Okamura, Carlota Nemec and Rio Co.
along with Junko Naruse, Marilen Bantug, Gretchen Recto and Tami Leung (Class B) and Bea Baluyot, Josephine Co, Sandra Rublee and Shirley Romualdez.
