Philta age-grouper resumes in Gen. Santos
MANILA, Philippines - The Philta-Palawan Pawnshop Regional Age- Group Championships presented by Babolat holds its very first tournament in General Santos City beginning Friday with a big field expected to vie for top honors in various divisions at the City Courts.
“We are very thankful to Philta, Palawan Pawnshop and Babolat for bringing this tournament here for the first time,” said Gen. Santos Councilor Dominador Lagare Jr., also the president of Gen. Santos Tennis Federation and City Courts. “This is a big boost to tennis here and to the kids as well.”

The four-day Gen. Santos stop of the Philippine Tennis Association circuit is the third of five legs slated in Mindanao as part of Philta’s program, in cooperation with sponsors Palawan Pawnshop and Technosports, to promote the sport and discover fresh talents from the countryside.
“We are excited to hold this tournament in Gen. Santos and we’re inviting all young tennis buffs to join and get a feel of tournament play,” said Guillermo Nocom, president of Technosports, exclusive distributor of Babolat.
Cagayan de Oro will host the next leg on Nov. 16-19 event while the Mindanao swing will wrap up in Sultan Kudarat on Nov. 23-26.
Davao and Kidapawan City hosted the first two Mindanao legs of the circuit, which features competitions in boys’ and girls’ 12-U, 14-U, 16-U and 18-U divisions and the 10-unisex.
“From this series of tournaments in the provinces, we hope to produce talents whom we’d like to develop and train for possible slots in the national pool,” said Palawan Pawnshop COO Bobby Castro.
