Racela takes over as Tams’ mentor
MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern U has appointed Nash Racela as the Tams new coach following the team’s disastrous campaign in the UAAP Season 75 men’s basketball tournament where it missed the Final Four after back-to-back runner-up finishes.
“FEU head coach will be Nash Racela effective Nov. 1,” FEU’s representative to the UAAP board Anton Montinola told The STAR yesterday.
Racela, currently an assistant coach with Talk n Text in the Philippine Basketball Association, is set to take over the reins of the team that failed to make it to this year’s UAAP semis despite staying in the Top 3 majority of the double-round elims.
Montinola said under Racela, the Tams expect to make a huge turnaround in Season 76.
“Finals or championship next season,” he said when asked about the Tams’ expectations from their new coach, who will replace veteran Bert Flores.
Racela’s appointment ushers in a coaching revamp for the FEU seniors team after its fifth place finish, with Flores’ deputy Johnny Abarrientos spared from the overhaul.
