Orcollo second in US 9-Ball

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Dennis Orcollo bowed to Shane Van Boening of the US, 7-13, and settled for runner-up honors in the US Open 9-Ball in Virginia Saturday.

Orcollo failed to keep the momentum of his victories over fellow Filipinos and former world champions Efren Reyes and Alex Pagulayan and succumbed to Van Boening, who seized control early en route to victory.

Van Boening earlier bested Pagulayan, 11-5, to clinch the first berth in the hot seat. He took the top purse of $25,000.

Orcollo, the former world No. 1, settled for $15,000 while Pagulayan and Reyes received $10,000 and $6,000, respectively.

Other Filipinos who competed in the annual event were Francisco Bustamante, Ronnie Alcano, Jose Parica, Warren Kiamco, Carlo Biado, Santos Sambajon, Ramon Mistica, Israel Rota, Daniel Dagotdot and Reynaldo Campana.
