MANILA, Philippines - Smart Communications Inc. and Sports5 have teamed up to create PBA on AKTV app, a new application for Android mobile phones providing PBA fans extra access on things about the league, its ball clubs and players.

Now available via free download on the Google Play online store and soon on the Apple app store, the locally developed app gives Filipino basketball fans around the world access to live scores, statistics, game alerts and others at the touch of a button.

“PBA on AKTV takes ‘Kampihan’ to a whole new level,” said Mitch Padua, the Smart head for internet products. “With 24/7 access to league information and the ability to share thoughts via social networking, this ‘second screen’ app redefines Philippine basketball for the mobile generation.”

“Pinoys love to watch PBA games. They want to see the scores and stats of their favorite teams. Our primary goal with this app is to provide fans with the best content for every game, while connecting them with each other,” TV5 executive vice president and chief operating officer Roberto Barreiro.

PBA commissioner Chito Salud welcomed this innovation introduced by its television partner to help promote the league.

“We’re very grateful to be promoted this way. As a product, the PBA needs accessibility. We welcomed this access enhancement,” said Salud.
