The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Team Visayas sets out for a record fourth straight championship as it takes on the other regional winners in the 25th national finals of the Milo Little Olympics firing off tomorrow at the Marikina Sports Park in Marikina City.

Around 1,500 young athletes are vying in various sports in the country’s premier junior inter-school sports competition among student-athletes with the reigning three-peat titlist Team Visayas out to extend its reign.

Out to foil Team Visayas (University of San Carlos) bid are elementary school regional champions Diosdado Macapagal Elem. School (Team NCR), University of Baguio (Team Luzon) and City Central School-CDOC (Team Mindanao), while University of Cebu (Team Visayas) heads the cast in the secondary division that includes regional winners University of the East (Team NCR), Holy Angel University (Team Luzon) and Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (Team Mindanao).

“The Milo Little Olympics national finals is an avenue through which student-athletes from across the country are able to exhibit athletic skills, character and discipline in their respective sports events. The teams are all proud to represent their respective regions in a national competition like this which serves as a motivation for them to strive harder,” said NCR regional organizer Robert Calo.

Events on tap are athletics, badminton, chess, football, gymnastics, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, sipa or sepak takraw and scrabble.

“We truly believe that these young athletes’ determination to fulfill their goals in school will drive them to achieve greatness in all their endeavors. And Milo does not only provide opportunities for them but also encourage and motivate them to excel in academics,” said Milo sports executive Robbie de Vera.
