PSL holds clinic for Bicol swimmers, coaches
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Swim League yesterday conducted the first part of a two-day swimming clinic and team building workshop for swimmers and members of the Ibalong Magayon Aquagliders Swim Club at the Mayon Spring in Albay.
The clinic-workshop coincided with the first anniversary of the club, which has increased its membership to 65 under a new set of officers headed by Arlon Rances.
The club has produced an outstanding swimmer in 17-year-old Arianne Alcantara, who will be joining the national pool that will train for the 2013 Universiade in Kazan, Russia.
“I am grateful to PSL for giving me this unforgettable opportunity, it will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Alcantara.
PSL president Susan Papa said the IMASC has been active not only in training swimmers but in promoting efforts to preserve the environment.
“The Departtment of Environment and Natural Resources shared their seedlings for planting at the foot of Mayon Natures Park, which has made the swimmers aware of the green environment,” said Papa.
“It is such an important affair for a growing swim club. They lined up several activities not only for swimmers but also for the parents and coaches,” Papa said.
“It is a very informative weekend for swimmers, parents, and coaches,” said lawyer Teresa Mahiwo, PSL Region 5 director.
Other officers are Joseph Salazar II (vice- president), Madonna Nunez (secretary), Fe Ataiza ( asst. sec), Marli Ralla (treasurer), Gina Raneses (asst. treasurer) and Constance Oliveros (auditor).
