MANILA, Philippines - Technological Institute of the Philippines and Philippine Merchant Marine School made short work of their respective rivals to rule the fourth Interscholastic Athletic Association volleyball tournament at the TIP gym in Manila yesterday.
TIP trounced FEATI University, 25-10, 25-17, 25-16, to retain the women’s crown while PMMS dispatched Philippine Women’s University, 25-19, 25-19, 25-18, to claim the men’s title.
Both teams ruled their respective divisions by winning all eight matches of the league backed by Molten and Mikasa of Sonia Trading, Globe and Abot Kaya Pinoy.
Lanky 5-foot-11 spiker Lea Mae Guantero scored the bulk of TIP’s points with Rochelle Fidel, Jae Ann Rendon, Michelle dela Cruz and team captain Lara Justin Pasion providing support for the team coached by Gerry Yee.
Michael Uy, Edlar Destrisa, Angelo Macalma, Jonathan Nazareno and Mohammad Madnur, on the other hand, sparked the attack of the Misicorro Libay-mentored PMMS spikers to cap their smashing debut in the league.
It was a double celebration for PMMS, which captured the men’s basketball crown at the Makati Coliseum last Tuesday.
