Global-Gen Trias, Kaya vs Forza in UFL today

MANILA, Philippines - Global and General Trias collide for the solo Group A lead while Kaya and Forza seek to come out of a four-way logjam atop Group B as the two clash in today’s United Football League Cup at The Fields in Nuvali.

Global, the reigning League champion, hopes to follow up its 3-1 win over Pasargad in Tuesday’s opener at the Rizal Memorial pitch while General Trias, a newcomer, aims to ride the crest on its 5-0 sinking of Navy Thursday as the two collide at 2 p.m. at the Field No. 3 where UFL matches will be played for the first time this year.

Both Global, which emerged from the ashes to reign supreme in the League early this year, and General Trias, making its UFL debut, have three points although the latter has better goal differential thanks to its lopsided vcictory over Navy.

The two are expected to part ways today as the winner goes on to seize Group A solo lead shared by Team Socceroo, which has yet to see action, Pasargad and Navy.

Kaya, which ran out of firepower in a 1-1 draw with vastly improved Green Archers United, in the Cup inaugurals, and Forza, which fought Diliman Victory Liner United to a scoreless standoff, clash at 4 p.m. at Field No. 1, hoping for a win that will catapult  the winner to the top.

Currently, the Kaya and Forza booters are at No. 1 alongside Green Archers United and Diliman Victory United on a point apiece and should shake things up in Group B whatever the results of their match today.

Today’s heavy six-game bill also pits defending Cup titlist Air Force Phoenix versus Agila FC, at 4 p.m. at Field No. 2, Stallion Penson against Army Fritz & Macziol at 2 p.m. at Field No. 1, Mendiola versus Pachanga at 2 p.m. at Field No. 2 and Laos against Nomads Auction Manila at 4 p.m. at Field No. 3.

The Airmen are expected to go hard at the start of their title-retention bid with Phl Azkals team veterans Chieffy Caligdong and Ian Araneta spearheading their ambitious campaign.

Stallion Penson, the highest seed in Group D, is also out to jumpstart its campaign with a win over an unpredictable Army side.
