MANILA, Philippines - Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte’s Champs for Joy, culled from the summer training camp under the Philippine Swimming League and Diliman Preparatory School, display their wares today in the PSL -DPS 31st motivational swimming competition at the DPS Swimming Center on Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.
The Champs for Joy were chosen from over 200 swimmers who took learn-to-swim lessons at the DPS Swimming Center last summer and since then have advanced to competitive level under the PSL swimming program.
Vice Mayor Belmonte will deliver an inspirational message as guest of honor during the competition which has drawn participants from Bicol, Baguio, Batangas, Mindoro, Angeles, Dagupan, Navotas, Caloocan, Antipolo, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Pasay, Marikina, Manila and Quezon City.
“The event is one of the monthly competitions we conduct to motivate our beginners and novice swimmers, and, from their batch, we hope to see many and hopefully all of them going to the next level,” said PSL president Susan Papa.
Competitions will be held in six categories - six years and under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-17 for boys and girls.
The top 3 winners will receive gold, silver and bronze medals.
During the competition the PSL will announce the names of swimmers qualified for the China and Bangkok international age group competitions. Both delegations will be headed by DPS president and former Sen. Nikki Coseteng.
