Gen. Trias booters overpower Navy
MANILA, Philippines - Newcomer General Trias overpowered a rugged but decimated Phl Navy Red Juice side, 5-0, to grab the solo lead in Group A in the United Football League Cup at the Rizal Memorial pitch late Thursday night.
Song Myung Soo came through with a brace in the second half to power Gen. Trias past the Navymen in a big debut for an early share of the lead with reigning League champion Global FC, which routed Pasargad FC, 3-1, in Tuesday’s opener.
Meanwhile, the Loyola Meralco Sparks, playing without an injured James Younghusband, bowed to the Tampine Rovers, 0-2, in the semifinals of the Singapore Cup in Singapore City.
Lee Kyu Hwan opened up scoring for the Gen. Trias booters in the seventh minute and then Nam Geun Young followed it up 17 minutes later with a rocket-like goal to go into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Song then joined the scoring burst with goals on the 59th and 74th before Do Hoan Cheol capped the lopsided win with a goal on the 78th to finish off the Navymen, whose rough plays backfired as two of their players were tossed out.
Loreto Kalalang was first to go after he was slapped a red card right on the seventh minute before Lyndon Zamora followed suit after elbowing a General Trias player on the 46th, leaving Navy with just nine men.
In the other match, Forza and Diliman Victory Liner FC fought to a scoreless draw to join Kaya FC and Green Archers United, which played to a 1-1 game also in Tuesday’s inaugurals, in Group B with a point apiece.
