Aces, rising stars clash in Cangolf Am
MANILA, Philippines - The country’s top amateurs, led by Rupert Zaragosa, Gio Gandionco, and Lloyd Go, get to see action against a slew of upcoming stars in the Canlubang Amateur Open, which gets going tomorrow at Cangolf’s north and south courses in Laguna.
The 54-hole tournament, ending Oct. 5, serves as part of the Globe Business Amateur Golf Circuit sanctioned by the National Golf Association of the Phils. with a spirited battle for top honors expected in the premier Championship Division.
Art Arbole nipped Clyde Mondilla in the playoff to bag last year’s crown but the duo has since joined the pro ranks, leaving Zaragosa and company to dispute top honors in the 13th staging of the event hosted by Cangolf, a long-time backer of Philippine golf.
Registration is ongoing with fee pegged at P2,500 for non-members and P1,000 for club members, inclusive of one free practice round, raffle, giveaways and lunch in the final day of the event backed by Pancake House.

Also on tap are the 36-hole competitions in the Ladies Division, Class A (11-and-below), Class B (12-18), Class C (19-and-above) to be played in the first two days.
Prizes will be given to the winner and the next three placers in the championship division and top two gross finishers and the top three net placers in the other categories.
