MANILA, Philippines - The TRS-Castrol Racing Kids team put on an impressive show to cap the season with Mini-ROK champ Fil-Aussie Flynn Jackes leading the romp in the Coca-Cola Karting Super Series at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga recently.
Down by six points heading to the final leg, the nine-year-old Jackes outclassed his rivals, including title contender Gabe Cabrera, to dominate the qualifying heat and the pre-final race.
Although he wound up second in the final race, 0.306 of a second behind, Jackes still claimed the overall Mini-ROK plum with an eight-leg total of 501 points, beating Cabrera (481) by 20 points.
AT Tuason also turned in a runner-up finish, 0.014 of a second behind in the final leg to clinch overall second runner-up honors in the Formula Cadet Expert with 420 points while Wils Casequin checked in third to finish fourth overall.
“Winning the championship is just the sweetest reward for all the pressure and challenges our team went through this season. And I thank the whole team – coach JP and Mike (Tuason), our mechanics and my teammates for standing behind me all these times,” said Jackes.
“But we hope this great teamwork will also power us to the Asian Karting Open Mini-ROK championship,” he added.
The team’s campaign was backed by Castrol, Bridgestone, Standard Insurance, C! Magazine, OMP, Coke Zero, Oakley, Aguila and Toptul.
JP Tuason, founder and president of the Tuason Racing School, said Jackes has underscored TRS’ sound racing program.
“This championship race really brought out the best in Flynn that we’ve never seen him so focused before. He deserves all the credits. Our support means nothing if Flynn didn’t give his share of hard work and determination that proved to be the very key to his successful title journey this season,” said Tuason.
