MANILA, Philippines - The Wake Boarding and Waterskiing Association of the Philippines (WWASP) holds the second leg of the first Monster Energy Drink Philippine Qualifier Series (PQS) presented by Safeguard Active tomorrow at the Deca Davao Wake Park in Mintal, Davao.
Top national riders Carlo dela Torre and Samantha Bermudez head a huge field of 70 riders vying for various titles in the event which serves as part of the selection process for the national team vying for future international competitions.
Dela Torre goes for his second win in the Open Wakeboard Men’s class against the likes of Symon Cantos, Christian Joson and JC Dy while Bermudez seeks a repeat in the Open Wakeboard Women’s side against Andrea Tanjangco, Patricia Espeleta and Cathy de los Santos.
Competitions start at 9 a.m. with titles also up for grabs in the girls and boys divisions, and in the men’s and ladies sections of the junior, masters, veterans and the Wakeskate juniors and wakeskate Open.
Dela Torre and Bermudez, along with Angelo Linao and Symon Cantos will be part of the 20-man Manila contingent to the Davao stop but Borromeo expects more of Davao’s well-trained junior standouts to shine and CamSur’s top caliber talents to step up for berths in the national team.
The Philippine qualifier is aimed at establishing a clear-cut basis for the selection of national team riders. All active Filipino wakeboarders and wakeskaters, including those in the present WWASP pool of riders, must submit themselves for national rankings based on the points earned from their finishes in this three-leg circuit organized by the Wake Boarding and Waterskiing Association of the Philippines (WWASP) headed by JV Borromeo and backed by DECA Homes, Stokedinc, Ripcurl, Electric Visual, CWB and CTRL Wakeboards.
