Paragua, Nolte draw match

MANILA, Philippines - GM Mark Paragua and IM Rolando Nolte settled for a draw to remain half-a-point behind Dutch GM Sergei Tiviakov in the fifth round of the DYTM Raja Nazrin Shah International Chess Championships in Malaysia yesterday.

Paragua and Nolte agreed to split the point after 22 moves to hike their output to four points in a tie with GMs Darwin Laylo, Nguyen Anh Dung of Vietnam and Deepan Chakkravarthy J. of India, and IMs Vishnu Prasanna V. of India, Jahongir Vakhidov of Uzbekistan and Nguyen Van Huy of Vietnam, FIDE Master Ronnie Lim of Malaysia and Jodi Setyaki Azarya of Indonesia.

Tiviakov, meanwhile, beat GM Cao Sang of Vietnam to grab the solo lead with 4.5 points.

GM Oliver Barbosa defeated Aris TLS in their Slav game to lead the 3.5 pointers.
