Riveras dominate national slalom in Sucat

- The Philippine Star

MANILA,Philippines - The Fern-C Racing slalom trio of Milo, Noel and Estefano Rivera turned the race into a family celebration following their victories in the sixth leg of the Race Motorsports Club’s National Slalom Series at the SM Sucat parking lot recently.

Milo and Noel Rivera sealed a rare 1-2 finish in both the overall and production series after posting the best times of the day over two-time national champion Peewee Mendiola.

Estefano Rivera, on the other hand, copped the novice best time of the day with support from Gulfspeed, Karcraft, G-Motors, Monte Carlo Motors, Rey Electrical and Bosch Automotive, Phils.

It was probably the first time in years that the race went through a second run-off after Milo and his uncle-mentor Noel, a three-time national slalom champion, submitted identical best times of 51.66 seconds in their first run-off.

Milo, a 17-year-old Don Bosco Makati Senior High School student, earlier set the pace to post the overall and production best time of 51.72 seconds but Noel surpassed the mark with a 51.66 clocking which Milo matched to force a second run-off.

Milo eventually beat Noel in the tie-breaking run-off to bag both titles.

Earlier in the day, Milo’s younger brother Estefano Rivera, a 15-year-old Don Bosco Makati Junior High School student, copped the novice best time of the day with a 56.60 second run to firm up his bid for the novice driver- of-the-year award.

The Riveras hope to continue their winning ways in the seventh leg of the National Slalom Series at the Riverbanks Mall, Marikina Sunday.
