Javier rules Unilab men's duathlon
MANILA, Philippines - Robeno Javier of the Phl duathlon team survived a tough challenge from Phl triathlon team member John Chicano to win the male open title in the Unilab Active Health Duathlon which drew close to 700 duathletes yesterday at Clark, Pampanga.
After engaging Chicano toe to toe during the first run and the bike leg, Javier took the lead for good entering the second transition and went on to finish the distance (6K run - 60K bike - 4K run) in 2 hours, 17 minutes, 9 seconds. Chicano took the silver in 2:17:53 while Robinson Estevez was third in 2:18:18.
On the distaff side of the event organized by Bikeking and supported by Manila North Tollways Corp., Holiday Inn Clark, and Timex, Monica Torres dominated her race from start to finish in 2:34:01.
In the sprint distance, Phl training pool member Kevin Eijansantos overhauled the early lead of developmental pool member Mark Altura to win the male’s title in 57:42.
Mark Gregory Pile came in second (1:00:00) and Altura third in 1:02:02.
Meanwhile, Kim Mangrobang finished first among the ladies in 1:05:19 followed by Mayi Maligaya (1:13:57) and Magali Echauz (1:15:01).
The race, the first to pass through the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), was graced by Unilab Active Health brand manager Lester Castillo, Unilab vice-president Alexander Panlilio and Bikeking CEO and race organizer Raul Cuevas.
Unilab’s next event is the Tri United 3 at Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa Nov. 10-11.
