PMMS takes ISAA opener

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Merchant Marine School and Manila Tytana Colleges disposed of separate rivals yesterday to kick off the fourth Interscholastic Athletic Association men’s volleyball tournament at the Technological Institute of the Philippines gym yesterday.

PMMS leaned on Michael Uy, Edlar Destrisa, Angelo Macalma, Jonathan Nazareno and Mohammad Madnur to defeat defending champion FEATI University, 25-19, 25-17, 25-22.

Emmanuel Aban, Lucky Perez and Aaron Cueto, on the other hand, powered Manila Tytana to a 25-14, 25-18, 25-17 victory over Manila Adventist Medical Center and Colleges in the tournament backed by Molten and Mikasa of Sonia Trading, Globe and Abot Kaya Pinoy.

Meanwhile, Philippine Women’s University squeezed past St. Dominic College of Asia, 42-40, last Wednesday to post its first win in three starts in men’s basketball.

Jimmy Brown scored 11 points as La Consolacion College-Manila trounced Feati, 43-39, to nail its third straight win.

PMMS drew 25 points from Elmar Posadas as it beat Manila Tytana, 58-43.

Dhon Reverente added 13 points as the Mariners hiked their record to 4-0.
