Phl hosts int'l wakeboarding championships
MANILA, Philippines - The Wake-Boarding and Waterskiing Association of the Philippines gets a big boost with the Philippines’ hosting of the world watersports spectacle dubbed the IWWF Worlds: 2012 Cable Wakeboard World Championships presented by DECA Homes on Nov. 6-11 at Clark.
WWASP chairman Jose Vito Borromeo said the top-level event, sanctioned by the International Wake-Boarding and Waterskiing Federation (IWWF), features the world’s best riders.
The WWASP is a POC-recognized national sports association.
It had been busy the past two years developing the sport and training athletes for the national team.
Borromeo’s programs, backed by WWASP officials, sponsor companies and supporters, paid off when the Philippines was chosen one of the stops of the IWWF World Tour.
Sam Bermudez also bagged a bronze medal in the ladies division in last year’s Southeast Asian Games.
“Hosting this prestigious world event is another milestone for the WWASP. It will be a big boost to the country’s tourism industry considering the number of foreign delegates and guests coming here from all over the world. Moreover, we see the event as a perfect avenue to promote our world-class cable wake parks and kick off the full-blast launching of our revitalized thrusts and programs for the development of the sport and search for more world-class Filipino athletes,” said Borromeo.
The staging of the event was sealed with a memorandum of agreement signed by Borromeo and IWWF president Kuno Ritschard, IWWF Cable Development committee chairman Uwe Goldstein and 8990 Housing Development Corp. CEO JJ Atencio.
