SSC-A repels FEU; NU smothers TIP five
MANILA, Philippines - San Sebastian and National University waylaid their respective rivals to post their second straight victories in the 10th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament at the Arellano gym.
Jaymar Perez scored 22 points for the Stags-A as they thumped the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 73-58, while Alfred Aroga sizzled with 36 points to power the Bulldogs to a 94-89 victory over the Technological Institute of the Philippines Engineers.
SSC and NU thus share the lead in Group A.
In Group B, Nikol Bolos and Arnold Reyes made 10 points each for the Trinity University of Asia Stallions, who beat San Sebastian College-C, 66-54.
Gio Vergara, who chipped in 14 points for the SSC Stags-A, sparked a big run in the second quarter with a triple as the Recoletos-based squad took a 38-29 lead at the turn.
Aroga hit 15 points in the third period for the Bulldogs, who raced to a 34-17 lead in the opening quarter before padding it to 25, 76-61, before the start of the fourth.
