MANILA, Philippines - Wack Wack, Orchard and Canlubang assured themselves of tickets to the playoff rounds after beating their respective home-and-away opponents in the 2012 Men’s Federation Golf League in various venues.
After being forced to a draw at their home course, the Wack Wack golfers visited Forest Hills to hack out a 3.5-1.5 victory and secure their place in the knockout rounds of the inter-club series while virtually knocking their victims out of contention. Wack Wack now has 14 points with still one round to go in Group 1.
The loss also meant Eastridge got a free passage into the next round despite earning just a draw against the out-of-the-running Tagaytay Highlands in its final eliminations match as it finished with 14 points against the 7 of Forest.
Orchard also was in after sweeping Manila Southwoods in their duel with a couple of 4-1 results. The Dasmariñas club now has 15 points with still one home-and-away assignment left, leaving Northwoods and Valley to dispute the second slot in Group 2 with Alabang. Tied at 9 points, Northwoods and Valley need to win at least one of their next two games to forge a tie with Alabang which now prays that either of the other two teams would not sweep their remaining games.
Valley stalled Alabang’s entry into the next round with a 3.5-1.5 win on the road and a 4-1 decision at home, dealing a crushing blow to the latter’s survival chances.
Canlubang is also far ahead of the pack in Group 3 with just the second berth left to be contested by Riviera and Mimosa.
