MANILA, Philippines - Two hundred-fifty players representing 31 schools see action in 2012 ICTS-JGFP Inter schools golf tournament, a series of competitions to be played in six various venues starting today in two of the six host venues.
Hostilities in the Midgets 2 and the Girls 2 categories fire off at the Capitol Hills Golf & Country Club and Aguinaldo Golf Club, respectively, after the opening ceremonies and parade of schools at the Capitol grounds.
This year’s cast includes Ateneo de Manila, Assumption College, Beacon International, Brent International, Casa Real Montessori, Colegio San Agustin, College of St. Benilde, Community of Learners, De La Salle Antipolo, De La Salle Taft, Harvest Christian, Hope Christian, Immaculate Conception Academy, International School, Jesus Flock Academy, La Salle Canlubang, La Salle Greenhills, La Salle Zobel, Marist School, Makati Hope Christian School, MIT, Miriam College, OB Montessori Greenhills, OB Montessori Las Piñas, PATTS, San Beda College Alabang, School of Holy Spirit QC, Southville International, The Masters Academy, St. Paul College, and Xavier School.
They will be competing for the Seniors division (boys college), Juniors division (boys high school), Midgets 1 division (boys Grade 5-7), Midgets 2 division (boys Grade 2-4), Girls 1 division (girls high school/college) and girls 2 division (girls Grade 2-7).
Aside from Capitol Hills and Aguinaldo, the other host schools are Ayala Greenfield Golf & Leisure Club, Club Intramuros Golf Club and Valley Golf & Country Club.
Realizing the need to run simultaneous events to accommodate growing number of future champions, the organizing Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines have also a separate league at Riviera Sports Club for newcomers which includes a Pee Wee Division for Grades 1 and below in the next four months.
With the major backing of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) and support from Pancake House Group of Companies, Philippine Airlines and Inquirer Golf, the Inter Schools continues to grow and become an important tool in grassroots development.
Already, there is a marked increase in the number of participants from last year’s 140 to 250, the number of participating schools from 22 to 31 and produced more than 150 new JGFP members in the last three years.
The full competition schedule will also bring the Midgets 2 and Girls 2 entries to different courses on Aug. 26, Sept. 23, Oct. 14 and Nov. 4; the Midgets 1 and Seniors play on Aug. 19, Sept. 9, Sept. 30, Oct. 21 and Nov. 11 and the Juniors and Girls 1 on Sept. 2, Sept. 16, Oct. 7, Oct. 28 and Nov. 18.
