Pacquiao may opt for Bradley rematch

- Abac Cordero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao could be leaning on a rematch with Timothy Bradley in November.

“Palagay ko nga Bradley (I think it’s Bradley),” said Pacquiao’s legal adviser Franklin Gacal as he looked forward to a meeting between the boxer and American promoter Bob Arum.

The Top Rank chief flew in from the US yesterday morning and he will sit down with the congressman from Sarangani anytime soon.

“There’s a score to settle with Bradley,” said Gacal, who still couldn’t believe his eyes each time he catches a replay of Pacquiao vs Bradley last June 9 in Las Vegas.

Gacal said Pacquiao will have to decide soon regarding his next fight, and that’s what Arum wants as well.

“It’s August. If he fights in November, he has to start training next month,” said Gacal.

Arum said if he gets the confirmation from Pacquiao this week, he has to get to the other camp as soon as possible so the fight could be announced soon.

A press tour, Arum said, should take place the first or second week of September.

Pacquiao was far from his best against Bradley but most people believed he did enough to win the fight. Instead, two of the three judges awarded the victory to the undefeated American.

Bradley is now the reigning WBO welterweight champion and even before he climbed the ring against Pacquiao he was already talking of a rematch on Nov. 10.

Bradley had fake credentials and an oversized fight ticket printed for the said “rematch.” He might just get it but certainly under Pacquiao’s terms.

Bradley can’t ask for the moon and the stars.

Gacal believes that a Pacquiao vs Bradley rematch will still draw the curiosity of fight fans, and may still have the power to generate close to a million pay-per-view buys.
