MANILA, Philippines - Motorcycle riders, led by Raniel Resuello, Miko Erich Montano and Anthony Roman, hit the road anew on Sunday as they vie for top honors in the fourth leg of the Bridgestone Philippine Superbikes Championships, the 2012 Philippine Scooter Racing Championships and the 2012 Philippine Underbone King Championships at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.
Resuello, fresh from a stint abroad, guns for his third win as he tries to firm up his grip on the solo lead in the Bridgestone Philippine Superbikes Championships, sanctioned by Superbikes Racing Association (SBRA) with Bridgestone as the official Superbikes tires.
Montano seeks another double feat for JVT Racing as he resumes his bid for the overall crown in the Philippine Scooter Racing Championships while Roman goes for back-to-back title bid in the Philippine Underbone King Championships. Both events are sanctioned by the Underbone and Scooters Racing Association (USRA) and supported by FDR, the official tires.
Resuello currently totes 72 points as he tries to pad his lead over Anthony Roman (58), Toti Alberto (55), Marvin Mangulabnan (54) and John Defensor (52) and in the Intermediate division against Roman and Mangulabnan.
Aussie Richard Colwill, who beat Resuello in Clark in the second leg, is also out to spoil the Filipino riders’ bid.
Montano won the titles in both the premiere 180cc and 160cc Scooter classes to pull away in the Scooter Rider of the Year race with 72 points. He’s eyeing a repeat in the 160cc against teammates Arlan de la Cruz (63) and Benjo Mendoza (56) while seeking to prevail anew against Marvin Marquez (60), Edmar Quiambao (54) and Romer Corbe (44).
Roman wrested the overall lead in the Underbone King competitions with 67 points following his big win in the last leg. But he faces stiff challenge in the last three legs as Niño Fabian and Marvin Mangulabnan are within striking distance, with 60 and 59 points, respectively.
