Milo Little Olympics NCR leg slated in Marikina

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Milo Little Olympics, the premier nationwide junior interschool league for elementary and high school student-athletes, kicks off Aug. 10 for the first regional leg – the NCR elims – at the Marikina Sports Park in Marikina City.

Originally scheduled Aug. 3-5 and Aug. 11-12, the event has been moved to a later date (Aug. 10-12 and Aug. 18-19) to give way to the national periodic examinations for elementary and high school students.

“In the true spirit of Milo’s partnership with Dep-Ed, we are moving the opening ceremonies of the Little Olympics to make way for exams,” said Milo sports executive Robbie de Vera. “Milo furthers its commitment to finding the next generation of Filipino sports heroes by encouraging today’s student-athletes to excel and persevere not only in the court or field but also in the classroom.”

The Milo Little Olympics offers student-athletes a chance to showcase their athletic excellence, determination and drive in the national arena as the first step towards achieving berths in the national team for bigger leagues such as the Southeast Asian Games, the World Youth Cup and the Asian Junior track meet.

This year, the event seeks to develop not only athletic skills but mental discipline among young athletes as well through a roster of 12 sporting events, namely athletics, badminton, chess, football, gymnastics, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis, tae kwon do and volleyball, sipa or sepak takraw and scrabble.
