Pinoy, Kenyan runners vie in Mayon Trail Run

MANILA, Philippines - The Mayon Trail Run, the country’s leading trail marathon, holds its fifth edition on Aug. 18 with more than 300 extreme Filipino runners clashing with Kenyan ultra-marathoners in Legazpi City, Albay.

Organized by the city government of Legazpi with the support of the Department of Tourism, the event will fire off at Ligñon Hill and will pass through the Kapit Tuko trail, Wisdom trail, Yawa River, Bonga Gulley, Lava Wall, 4 x 4 trail and the ATV Mayon Trail Summit.

The race, which also ends at Ligñon Hill, will be mostly comprised by trails where lava flows during eruptions of Mayon Volcano.

According to Legazpi City Mayor Geraldine Rosal, the Mayon Trail Run is a challenging event which will take runners to the city’s scenic spots and a breath-taking view of world-renowned Mayon Volcano.

She added the event will boost Legazpi City’s position as a sports and adventure tourism haven because of its scenic beauty. 

The Mayon Trail Run also serves as part of the month-long 21st Ibalong Festival which relives an ancient Bicol legend about the prehistoric civilization of the region.

The festival will also feature other sporting events such as a the Mayor Geraldine Rosal golf tournament, a dragon boat competition, the national beach volleyball for college students, a three-day Mayon Volcano climb, a tennis tournament, a karate championship, a local airsoft competition, a bowling Cup and a bicycle caravan.
