TRS-Castrol whiz kids vie for honors

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The TRS-Castrol Racing Kids team primes up for a big outing as Flynn Jackes, AT Tuason and Wils Casequin vie for top honors in the Philippine leg of the 2012 Asian Karting Open Championship firing off tomorrow at the Carmona Racetrack in Cavite.

The nine-year-old Jackes guns for his second straight victory in the Mini-ROK class while Tuason and Casequin go all-out for the Formula Cadet Expert crown.

Jackes is coming off an impressive international debut, emerging as the Filipino finisher in the kickoff leg of the event at the Kartodromo de Coloane Circuit in Macau.

The Fil-Aussie bucked the odds to capture the Mini-ROK crown in his first stint abroad, humbling better-equipped and more experienced foreign rivals.

With a three-point lead from a total of 40 points, Jackes hopes to score a repeat against three foreign rivals and five other local bets in a bid to firm up his hold of the solo lead.

“It’s been a long time since a Filipino won the Asian Karting Mini-ROK crown. That win in Macau boosted his confidence as a race competitor and added maturity as far as skills and mental alertness are concerned.  And our motivation for him in this race is to foil the revenge of his foreign rivals who are aiming to beat him on his own turf,” said multi-awarded race car driver Mike Tuason who is personally supervising Jackes’ rigid training and preparations under the Tuason Racing School Race Career Management Program (TRS-RCMP).

Tuason also hopes that the pressure and the intense competition of thd prestigious annual event will bring out the better from AT Tuason and Casequin who are out to improve their chances in the Formula Cadet Expert class.

The troika is backed by Castrol, Bridgestone, Standard Insurance, C! Magazine, OMP, Coke Zero, Oakley, Aguila and Toptul.

AT Tuason ruled the Pre-Finals in Carmona recently and controlled the early goings of the Final race but lost his ground and ended third to remain third overall with a total of 163 points.

Casequin, the overall runner-up of the first Castrol Champions of the Future program last year, is also expected to step up and get his career back on the right track after reassessing the misfortunes and disappointments that affected his title bid in the past four races of the national series.
