Poker Tour holds Metro Card meet

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The P10 million Philippine Poker Tour returns to the Metro Card Club (Metrowalk) in Pasig City tomorrow for the third leg of its inaugural season which aims to discover a Philippine representative to next year’s main event of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas.

Judging from the response to the first two legs of the series, the six-day tournament is expected to draw another record field of poker enthusiasts. Buy-in for the event is P5,500. Cards fly at 3 p.m. although late entries will be accepted until the end of level two.

PPT founder lawyer Jojo Allado, who has just returned from Las Vegas where he competed in the WSOP main event, said he is all the more determined to developing the mind sport and crown the eventual champion of the 10-leg nationwide tour.

“We are committed more than ever to see this project through,” said Allado, pointing out that a Filipino player, Gerardo Lubas emerged with the second best chip count after Day 1-A of the WSOP main event. Lubas, who was supported by boxing great Manny Pacquiao, however, bowed out of action in the third day.

Makati businessman Dexter Bryan Luna won the maiden tournament at the Metro Card Club last May while musician Rebel Magdagasang topped the second leg at the Resorts World Manila last month.

The two gained automatic berths to the Final Table of Champions to be held in March next year where eight other leg winners from the monthly tournaments will join them to determine the grand champion who will be sent all-expenses paid to the WSOP.
