Manila, Philippines -  Filipino national junior bowlers Madeline Mae Llamas and Janine Kuwahara powered team Philippines to two silver medals in the 14th Asian School Bowling Championships at the Jaya Ancol Bowl in Jakarta, Indonesia recently.

Llamas won the country’s first silver medal in the girls’ singles event of the tournament sanctioned by the Asian Bowling Federation by scoring 1,251 total pinfalls on lines of 211, 228, 222, 205, 159 and 226. Singapore’s Joey Yeo Ruoqi submitted 1,281 to win the gold medal.

“We tried our best and we’re happy that we won two silvers,” said Llamas, a Saint Benilde student and member of the Philippine Bowling Congress (PBC) youth team. “We are very thankful to Mr. Alex Lim for supporting us.”

Llamas sustained her winning form in the girls’ doubles when she teamed up with Kuwahara in winning the team’s second silver medal with a total output of 2,472 total pins. Kuwahara delivered 1,302 (234, 203, 244, 201, 212 and 208) while Llamas rolled 1,170 (224, 196, 217, 191, 182 and 160).

Singapore’s Kimberly Ooi Jingyi and Tracy See Wan Zhen took the gold with 2,681 pinfalls while fellow Singaporean bets Joy Yap Jing Ying and Michelle Ng settled for third position with 2,429.

“Considering that it is a young team, we are satisfied with the performance. We just need to work harder on the upcoming kids,” said head coach Caloy de Leon.

Meanwhile, the quartet of Kuwahara, Anne Ipapo, Jhoana Lualhati and Llamas finished fourth overall in the girls’ team event. They scored 4,565 pins behind Singapore (4,759), South Korea (4,707) and Indonesia (4,612).
