NCR hosts Milo Little Olympics national finals

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Milo Little Olympics, the country’s premier inter-school league for elementary and high school student-athletes, will hold its national finals in NCR for the first time on Oct. 19-21 with Team Visayas out to defend the overall championship for a record fourth straight year.

The race to the grand finals kicks off with the NCR leg on Aug. 3-5, and Aug. 11-12 at the Marikina Sports Park, Marikina City. The Luzon leg will be staged Aug. 17-19 while the Visayas leg is set Aug. 24-26, and Sept. 1-2, and the Mindanao leg on Sept. 7-9.

All winners from the elimination legs will get an all-expense paid trip to NCR for the national finals.

Events to be disputed are athletics, badminton, chess, football, gymnastics, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball while two non-Olympic sports – sipa or sepak takraw and scrabble – are also on tap.

“Great things truly start from small beginnings. For the past 23 years, the Milo Little Olympics produced and discovered champions who have grown to win awards in global competitions,” said Robbie de Vera, Milo sports executive, Nestle Philippines. “The Milo Little Olympics is committed to encouraging student-athletes to work hard and persevere in pursuit of their dreams.”

Launched in Manila in 1988, the Milo Little Olympics offers student-athletes a chance to showcase their athletic excellence, determination and drive in pursuit of honors in international meets like the Southeast Asian Games, the World Youth Cup and the Asian Junior Track Meet.

The Milo Little Olympics has produced the likes of Sydney Olympic swimmer Liza Danilla, chess champion Emmanuel Emperado, tennis pro Johnny Arcilla, taekwondo champion Japoy Lizardo and gymnastics star Pia Adelle Reyes.
