Lalanto, Ybanez triumph in Century Tuna triathlon

MANILA, Philippines - Local favorites Sixto Lalanto and Mary Claudine Ybanez flashed top form and ruled their respective divisions in contrasting fashions in the Century Tuna National Age-Group Triathlon (NAGT) in Cagayan de Oro City recently.

Lalanto outclassed his rivals in the 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run to capture the junior sprint crown in 1 hour, 3 minutes, 48 seconds before hundreds of spectators who lined up the bike and run courses.

Ybanez battled back from four minutes behind in the second transition to overtake Annabelle Dominique Torres in the final kilometer of the run event to bag the ladies title.

Other winners in the CDO Misamis Oriental-organized event hosted by Chali Beach Resort and sponsored by Arena, Columbia SportsWear Company, Aling Nona’s Lechon, North Face, Kagay River Rafting, Cagayan de Oro Vice-Mayor Ian E. Acenas, City Councilor Ian Nacaya, Pamakid Trading & Milling and 100 Plus, were women’s Mary Pauline Fornea (17-19), Kathlene Co (20-29), Shai Bacus (30-over) and men’s Banjo Norte (17-19), Peter Villocino (20-24), Jean Patrick Serrano (25-29), Jemarvin Cabilan (30-34), Christopher Eyao (35-39), Ferdinand Sogoc (40-44), Tenggoy Colmenares (45-49), Allen Nitollama (50-54), Killu Kunimoto (60-over), Magaro/Pamisa (Sprint Distance Relay) and Parantar/Dedoyco (Standard Distance Relay).
