Manila, Philippines - A Baseball Philippines selection takes on the national team in an exhibition match highlighting today’s Pepsi Fil-Am Friendship Day festivities at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
The top players of Baseball Philippines go up against the national squad at 11:30 a.m. in an All-Star game held as part of the Fil-Am Day celebrations.
No less than US Ambassador to the Philippines Harry K. Thomas will grace the event organized by Community Sports Inc. and presented by Pepsi.
Lorenzo Ubungen, Ram Casey Alipio and Joennard Pareja of the Cebu Dolphins head the Baseball Phils. team that includes Amber Plaza, Mike Gante and Jezreel Rosita of the Dumaguete Uni-bikers and Jarus Inobio, Mark Ong and Emerson Atilano of the Manila Sharks.
Also in the line-up are Matt Laurel and Adrian Bernardo of the Alabang Tigers, Irvin Tuazon and Justin Payongayong of the Taguig Patriots and SJ San Juan and Jojo Apura of the Batangas Bulls.
The selection will be facing the national squad gearing up for various international tournaments, including the World Baseball Classic qualifiers later this year.
Fun games for the kids along with a five-inning exhibition contest between Smokey Mountain and Philippine Barako will also be held before the All-Star game.
Other backers of the event are Gatorade, Junior Baseball Softball Foundation of the Philippines, JCI Manila, Emperador Lights, Clark Development Corporation, Smokey’s Sausages, Summit Water, Harbour Centre, Dunkin’ Donuts and Eagle Sky Corp. with support from the Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Philippine Amateur Baseball Association and the Philippine Umpires Association.
